Midweek radio play

Paul Temple was mentioned here

Here's the broader story:

This evening, it's just the radio plays, as against the films (with PD's comments) on Friday.

It's hard to convey just how popular these radio plays were ... formulaic, yes, but listeners wanted that. The golden team, as you read in the Wiki, were Peter Coke and Marjorie Westbury ... however, I have thoughts on that and have been comparing Coke/Westbury, this week, as against Logan/Stevenson below:

Ordinarily, I'd not care for a remake but in this case, Logan seems a fair replacement for Coke, whilst Stevenson is, imho, a distinct improvement. The issue with Westbury was she suffered from one of the curses of Eve.  The scriptwriters must bear some blame too.

When a man or woman is talented, he or she is quite rightly feted and either of them can let it go to to the head, surrounded by sycophants.  With a woman, it's especially noticeable ... she develops that harsh "star" crow snapping voice, so can men but in her, it really grates.

Gerda Stevenson was already an accomplished actress ... without the ego, without the plummy high horse. Imho anyway. There are eight episodes here, each 30 minutes, so it will take some organising of your time.
