Tim Almond asks: “Can we nominate on a "precrime" basis, the new Rocky movie? Stallone is going back in the ring, aged 60, to fight the heavyweight champ. Anyone like to think this is going to be good?”Firstly, we have to get a few things agreed upon. This genre and this actor are not for everyone, so we can’t add it on those grounds alone. Already the director/writer/producer bit and the inclusion of Tyson [remember the Rock?] seem to make it a worthy nominee.
Imdb comment [1]: Any Stallone or Rocky fan will love this film. And I'm sure a lot of people who had doubts about this film 30 years later or even Stallone being 60 years old will be very surprised and pleased. And it does not hurt that Sylvester Stallone is in better shape at 60 then half of Hollywood under 30.
Imdb comment [2]: I had the opportunity to see a screening of this movie. Having been thoroughly disappointed with Rocky Five, I didn't have high hopes for this movie. I am very happy to say this movie brings the Rocky series to the rightful close that the fifth left so empty.
This is not looking so good for Tim’s nomination – five reviews, all positive for the same reason. Well, we'll put it in but what do you, the reader, think?

I've yet to see it (is it even out here in the US?). I saw the first, third, and fourth Rocky movies, but never the second (which I probably should) or the fifth (which I hear is atrocious and won't see). The idea of a new final Rocky movie is cool.

ReplyDeleteThe first Starship Troopers was one of the best films ever - the political connotations and message about media and war were timeless and perfected to the point that it was so subtle you hardly noticed it.
If you've only seen it once, it's worth a second look with this in mind.
Matt, it's about to come out. Will, it was nominated but now you're the second person to say it shouldn't be on the list. Perhaps the nominator didn't completely understand what it was about.

Sad really. The first Rocky is a simple, but well made decent-poor-guy-makes good tale.
