A broader definition of the Balkans, beyond the Carpathian mountains, might include the Czechs, certainly the Slovaks, definitely Bulgaria, Romania … not so much Greece, Turkey, Austria or Italy … it’s that chunk of land roughly bounded by those states, plus Russia.
