As you probably know Jack (Royal Marine slang for RN sailors) can wear a beard (if he can grow one within a month), a centuries-old tradition. Generally speaking not so the Army; one exception being the axe-wielding bloke, with a leather apron whose regimental name escapes me. That's all changed now as the PTB have decided it's time to get rid of that particular discipline, the clean-shaven uniformity, which underpins a portion of King's orders on how soldiers present themselves. Why? Don't be fooled by the excuses the real reason is the removal of what they believe is a recruitment barrier to Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims. Approved, as it must, by King Charles III this change to orders is targeted at them. Another example of the huge number of non-indigenous change agents in our midst.
