My fave cricketers, in no particular order, were Deadly Derek, Terry Alderman, Malcolm Marshall, Beefy Botham … no doubt I’ve forgotten a few … Shane Warne could turn them … Redpath, Hutton and Johnson were before my time. Wasn’t crazy for Freddy and Geoffrey as humans … good players though. Richard Hadlee, Pollock were good.
I would frequently get home from school at lunchtime (I hated school dinners) to find mum glued to the old b/w telly watching the cricket. She loved Deadly Derek and always tried catching a glimpse of his cricket boots. Apparently his feet were so big he had to cut the front of the boot so his toes poked out.
