Easter Saturday [3 to 5 ]

(0550) Morning all ... still not clear what the day's like out there. (0650)

5.  An issue we can't avoid

This poor sod is in the place which, eventually, by degrees, we are all drawn towards:

My father had that, plus emphyzema and hepatitis, war related. Not that it's happened but I'm taking option 1 above if it does. Easy for me to say, without the pain ... might be a different matter later. Not going to dwell, not a hypochondriac, better life this way.

a) Are we seeing the slow death of EVs?

i) Biden's electric road to nowhere: Two years after he vowed to spend $7.5 billion building 500,000 charging stations only SEVEN have been plugged in.

ii) “Ford will drastically cut the number of hourly workers at its factory that builds the Ford F-150 Lightning as sales of electric vehicles slow,” a local media outlet reported.

b) “It’s crazy”: bought it for 200,000 euros in 2012, Cyril’s squatted house will be sold for 40,000 euros at auction

“I got out of prison about ten days ago.” Cyril Coste’s descent into hell continues. A few months ago, this almost 43-year-old Toulon house owner pitched his tent in front of his insurer after finding himself on the street due to problems with his squatted house. Incarcerated last October for five months, the nightmare continues today for the forty-year-old.

“Everything is burnt because of the six fires. The various squatters have only degraded it. According to experts, it would be necessary to raze the structure which has become too fragile,” he says.

c) Would you go to the Met Office for Medical advice?

The once revered Lancet medical journal has launched a warning that skeptics of a looming climate emergency may be getting the upper hand, calling for a renewed effort to provoke climate action.

d) This may help to settle young invaders, but is it too dangerous for the Old Folk?

"It is a unique structure in France: in Siecq (Deux-Sèvres), an intergenerational residence welcomes elderly people and unaccompanied minors. This establishment was threatened with closure due to lack of occupants. The department had the idea of solving the problem by installing teenagers there.

“Very good, that’s good! You can put it in!” Under the watchful eyes of their host of the day, Roselyne, André (93 years old each), and Saïd, 17 years old, apply themselves. Measure the flour, prick the pie crust with a fork, break the eggs… The trio takes this pastry workshop to heart. “And there you can add four eggs.”

A few months ago, there were only nine seniors in the ‘Les Vignes’ independent residence, in Siecq, in Deux-Sèvres. Since the end of January, the corridors and the common room have become livelier again with the arrival of fifteen young migrants, all minors.

“We were a little scared all the same, but it went well,” smiles resident Roselyne Guyonnet. Everyone is polite, nice, they come to help us.”

“It’s going well, we’ll see later, but there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work,” says André Cassagne, resident.

Among the new residents, young Seydou, who came from Ivory Coast. He had been living in the hotel since September. Within the residence, he has a fully equipped apartment, where he quickly found his feet."
