On Wednesday morning, there was an assault in the Pierres Vives neighbourhood in Vesoul. A man attacked two women.

The attack occurred in the Rue Cariage. The perpetrator attacked a 51-year-old woman. She was driving children to an Institut médico-éducatif (IME). “He was unarmed, he pulled her out of the minibus and hit her with his hands,” said the deputy mayor of Vesoul, who was in charge of security.

The man then went after another 72-year-old woman. “He followed her to her house and beat her,” Ludovic Ballester continued. She was admitted to the Vesoul hospital centre as an absolute emergency. Her prognosis is life-threatening.

The perpetrator was arrested by the police. An investigation has been launched, led by the Vesoul public prosecutor’s office.  France Bleu

“The aggression against two women, a driver of the minibus of the medico-educational Institute of Vesoul, and a local resident – who is in serious condition – throws fear in the peaceful district of Pierres vives.”

That’s the idea. “Make ready for them all that you can of force and of warhorses, so that by them you may strike terror in the enemy of Allah and your enemy…” (Qur’an 8:60)

To my mind, we are long past the point of recording on cellphone, reporting and berating. We are also short of the general revolution globoThem so desperately want.  The tactics need to be between the two.

British universities frequently advertise a commitment to the Athena SWAN Charter, which is a set of ten principles designed to promote and support equality between genders in institutions of higher education, and which allocates bronze, silver and gold awards on application by such institutions. That universities should remove barriers that unfairly prevent employees from achieving their full potential is a project that almost anybody can get behind – even if we recognise that there is a certain amount of rent-seeking going on whenever a body sets itself up to give out industry awards of this kind.
