And yet they're the three most likely to understand why I've dropped into this gross incompetence and shoddy treatment of their work. This from DAD just now (next time, it might not even get a mention):

1.  Reliability

The U.S. meteorologist Anthony Watts has worked for over a decade looking at U.S. weather stations. His recent report noted that 96% of the weather stations used by the U.S. weather service NOAA were “corrupted” by the localised effects of urbanisation. Watts found that a “slight warming trend” when data were compared with “unperturbed” stations, was “approximately half the claimed rate of increase promoted by many in the climate science community”.

Mixed reaction by me. 

First is ... I'd have a good look at those instruments too and I'm thinking smart meters and absolutely anything they can do to up their take from the customer. 

Second is ... local or not ... it was that temp, on that instrument ... at that time.

Third is ... it has to be one of the most unreliable ways of measuring temps across an area, shirley well known by them. 

Fourth is ... for how long have they measured beside airports ... since the dawn of aviation ... or since warble gloaming became a thing?

Fifth is ... why have "scientists", the "official ones", not produced weighty "papers" on all this?

Sixth is ... why are these not widely available, rather than buried in some bureaucratic council office's broom cupboard?

Seventh is ... it must be either incompetence or intentional and if intentional, it is downright dishonest.

Eighth is ... it reminds me of the Nero Wolfe episode where he and Archie were discussing the killer later and he explained that as they know the girl had lied about points a and b, then that immediately cast doubt on any subsequent facts as at least "unreliable".

Ninth is ... if all Science relies on funding and funders want certain results, is not that also unreliable, esp. when serving an agenda, e.g. radio carbon dating? For those pro Big Science to guffaw that of course it's bloody reliable, more reliable than reports o some sky fairy, I immediately ask for your Sientifik "Proof beyong all doubt".

Tenth is ... in the spirit of small c science ... is it not more reliable to be speaking of ... our best guess of likelihood is XYZ ... and here's a list of all my biases and cercion which has led to such a dramatic conclusion.
