Saturday evening movie

This is one film where the person doing the reviewing is crucial ... the boys of course point straight to CZJ's laser derriere exercise and largely ignore the romance, the gals were far more mixed.  The reason I show only female reviews below is that they felt the glaring age discrepancy obvious - Sean Connery [1930] and CZJ [1969].

Little Jo

Sean Connery hooks up with Catherine Zeta Jones and despite the fact that they are common criminals they are made out to be heroes. I am always uncomfortable with these movies where the criminals get away with it. Also the "dirty old man thing". I resent also this notion that Catherine Zeta Jones would be remotely interested in a 70 year old man (even older than Michael Douglas!!). I was trying to think of a reverse casting to illustrate the point, but such is the sexism in Tinseltown I couldn't think of a single actress of Connery's age still headlining movies.

Chrissie

For the men, there is the supple and lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones. For the women, there is Sean Connery. (And for those who pooh-pooh the idea of a romance given their age difference, I have only to say that you should have been sitting behind us in the theater when my 16-year-old daughter and I were claiming dibs on Connery; true sexiness is ageless.) Plot holes, plot twists, who really cares about a plot, anyway? The whole point is fantasy, and Entrapment delivers. The sexual tension was high and believable and a refreshing change from the usual smut. The suspense was intense without the obligatory gore splattering everywhere.

Meredith 7

There was a certain element about this film that I thought was fairly stupid. This was why pair Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones as a 'couple'. I think it would have worked so much better had they been just partners in crime- everything in the story may have still worked without them being romantically involved. There are some great scenes in this film, with Zeta Jones showing her flexibility in the physical sense of the role.

Alice Liddell

A dark, disturbing exploration of perverse sexual relationships, more typical of the French school, a sordid May-December affair where the machinations of the heist-movie are used to express sado-masochistic principles. Their Oshima-like rituals are played against the forces of the law, which try to corral their subversive activities. Perhaps the film's nearest equivalent is the scene in AI NO CORRIDA, when the heroine pleasures the old tramp.

Mindy 1982

I have heard many negative reviews about this film and I have to say I disagree with them. I find this movie to be exciting. The chemistry between Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sean Connery is magnificent. Though the two actors are about four decades apart in age, the attraction between them is very believable. After all, Sean Connery has long been hailed as one of the most sexiest men alive, despite the fact he's now in his 70's, and Catherine Zeta-Jones is, well, just breathtakingly beautiful. It is not just the steamy connection that the two have on screen that makes this film worthwhile. The action scenes make the movie easy to keep focused on.

Dubbed by some as the worst film with the worst movie couple of all time,I have seen worse films than this. If this was made say today with say Lily James and Hugh Jackman or Jennifer Lawrence and Dick Van Dyke then it could be a much bigger uproar as the two main characters in this film Entrapment have a 39 year age gap between them(Sean Connery was 68/69 while filming and Catherine Zeta Jones was 29/30 while filming this film). To me I find it borderline creepy but I see this film as more of a crime film rather than a romantic crime drama. Then again Catherine is married to an older man 25 years older than her so it doesn't make a big difference.

Patricia Lopez

Every scene with zeta jones irritated me as she was posing and pouting as if she was on a magazine shoot. The idea of Sean Connery still being sexually active makes me feel sick. And why would a vain supermodel type such a zeta jones be interested In a man 40 year's older than her. It was that the detracted from the films good bones and slick style. In short the film would have been a 10 if they'd have used two different actors.

[This below is a real review:]

Fungirl 1989

The perfect duo I think! Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sean Connery! i have to say, this movie is really funny and breathtaking. although there are some parts which all movie lovers would think so silly and dummy, still this movie is enjoyable. one thing that make this movie so fun is that the chemistry of Mrs. Jones and Mr. Connery are so perfect. like their motto [ehm!] "First we try, then we trust", they seems take their own weight and let go the story became more powerful [i mean only at the beginning scene]. minute by minute, Sean and Catherine take us to explore so many magnificent place.

There were other female reviews ignoring the May-December and looking at the action.

Hmmmm.  We saw it about 2001, in our own age gap, I thought no way those two on screen. She had mixed feelings, she quite liked Mickey Rourke, today we'd both say no way. We have actually discussed it.

Just thinking:

DJT [1946] ... Melania [1970]

  1. I went off SC when I heard that he'd declined a knighthood offered by HRH, apparently something not done publicly. Then I started looking at his obvious acting talents a bit more critically. His ability to portray a Russian submarine commander with a Scottish accent, a Spanish conquistador with a Scottish accent and let's not forget his quintessential English agent with 'lishensh to kill' Bond, Jamesh Bond. By and large the films he's appeared in have been quite good and I have thoroughly enjoyed them but there's something nagging me about him.
