Saturday [5 to 9]

Lovely drizzle, wet roads.

9.  It's in the url

8.  I'm uneasy about Gateway Pundit

... possibly not for the reason others are also uneasy, for example someone on our side writing that GP has amazing pan-American access to even the most local stories - that takes an army of reporters and eyes on the ground.  For example:
A Cape Coral mother this week was found guilty of starving her 18-month old son to death after she fed him only raw fruits and vegetables. Sheila O’Leary was indicted in 2019 after her toddler son Ezra died of malnutrition and dehydration. He weighed only 17 pounds when he died.
That checks out, I'm not disputing the copy and as such, we need to run the report summaries somewhere at N.O.

No, what I vehemently object to, and it's a longtime objection, is for example Elton John pictures, anything paedo, anything body parts in gross condition, anything Biden in graphic form.  I do NOT wish to see it and shall most certainly click out instantly if they try it on.

And Gateway Pundit did just that with the vegan crim report above.  Along the top was a bank of three ads, large, of people's choppers.  Below the carefully placed first selected lines of the text was someone's shoulder with things coming out of it.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is vile.  No other word for it.  It renders the piece unreadable and unable to be unseen for that day.  So I shan't go there.

I'd bet GP would say they don't provide the ad content.  My first question is - why don't they vet advertisers, not for views but for sheer vileness in presentation?  Second question is - why are there ads ALL over the page, between paragraphs etc.?  It renders, as I say, the site unreadable, plus it reeks of sheer greed.

And lastly, as a blogger, every alarm bell and every red flag is triggered - that's no way to run a news service - meting out snippets of info, interspersed between ads?  That is manipulation of readers, in the same way you go to a top 100 list on some topic, they give you five or so, then you must keep clicking to get the rest.

They can get knotted.  I'll accept one Read more line, as at Gates of Vienna ... but no more.  No effing way.  I do NOT like Gateway Pundit.

Plus one more thing.  Have to support ggl in this I'm afraid, as a blogger.  Any copy whatever from GP skews the text on the site something awful.  It's like feeding in poison and I need to protect this site.  That text above I had to remove and enter in plain in html itself.  I'm afraid I agree with Blgr on this ... we need to watch for toxic input, not on viewpoints ... that's another question ... but for purely formatting reasons.

More later.

7.  Hope y'all well out there

6.  YouTube

... have made moves, not just on me.  A vlogger replied to me about it and how content is being hunted down.  You'll meet her soon.  As for me, I was hit this morning with a request for access to my photos and camera.

One blog spinoff is that urls do not auto-link any more, esp. on non-ggl platforms, I have to physically embed.

Whilst ggl and YT are within their rights, it doesn't make it any easier for users.

5.  In-evets-able tales

The stats as they stand.  Immune system wipeout. Is fiddling the stats worse than fiddling kiddies? Global Health Non-Emergency.

  2. Love this article in TCW, NOT for its content, which may be accurate, but for what it says about the mentality of those in our MIC and the pollies;

  3. Er... I have to ask,'what ads'. I haven't seen an add on sites in years because I will not run the browser wide open - too much junk out there. My advice to you is the have something like adblock plus running on your browser, also add no script and almost all of the probles go away.

    1. Ivan, we've been through this quite a few times. My aim as a blogger is not to protect myself but, unprotected, to see what naff things this one or that do ... and to report on that here. Different for a reader of blogs ... your advice there makes eminent sense, whereas I, as pundit, need to see what they try to get up to and call them out on it.

    2. James, over the last couple of months, on occasion (I think its happened about 3 or 4 times now), I'll either fire up the browser or its already running, but when I come here I get a popup dialogue , asking me where I want to save the html.

Its not a problem to me, or even a nuisance, I just thought it something that you'd like to know. I've left it this long to comment on it because I've been trying to find out the cause but can't find anything wrong this end, and no mention of any bugs like this on Mozilla support sites. This is also the only site that its happened with.

GP isn't always my cup of tea either but it runs stuff that few others do, or can, like election fraud. They're doing the right thing with the Russia/Ukraine conflict: asking questions, explaining the history. The mRNA debacle is another, especially the role of US players like that gruesome sociopath Anthony Fauci. As for the ads I treat them in a similar way to when I'm driving: I look at the road ahead not what's on either side :)

    1. Quite agree, Steve, don't alter what you're doing, this is my issue as the blogger, it's back end cyberstuff, although techies would say it's frontend.

  5. GP can be a bit of a mess to navigate can't it, even with adblock. Also a bit hysterical at times, but they do seem to have wide coverage and stuff often checks out to a source. I have to admit that I generally ignore all GP links here, I would rather go there direct where I can see quickly what stories are most relevent, many concern individuals and places that I don't know and are esentially just extra peices in the main jigsaw picture - and we know what that looks like. Personally I find Instapundit (PJ media) Zhedge and the Whatfinger aggregator listings useful. Main problem is they are all very US centric. I know the UK is fairly irrelevent in global trend terms but I have yet to find a good aggregator specialising in UK news of our interests. You James are as good as I have found, SDA is less US centric and cast their net a bit wider, even TCW have some good articles, and of course we have a number of good bloggers, but perforce each post tends to be single subject. We lack a central point.
