Hump Day [1]

1.  Time to make some things clear to any readers/commenters at any site

I'll get back to that.  Just awoke about 7:30 a.m., with Steve's, PhantomDigger's, DAD's and Torquaymada's ready to go in 90 minutes in HD[2].  Very sneezy, as are others I know, so I believe.

Morning, all!

Right, let's get down to this.  Most blogs are on a platform.  The most common is Blogspot, the next most used WordPress.  Each have advantages and disadvantages.  After that come self-hosted, as this blog was, three times, but the 'firewall' or intermediary was a tech minded chap in each case.  Now I'm on Blogger and WP as you know.  Self-hosting is no protection as GoDaddy and Amazon, for example, then have tabs on you.

Whenever anyone at all comments, he/she leaves an email.  Emails can be created at the drop of a hat and so do not tell much.  What is also left is an IP address, or address on the web of the device you used to make the comment.  Some devices have a fixed IP and to use some software requires a fixed IP.  Some devices have an ever changing IP.  I'm in both positions myself.

You'd pretty much need to accept that if you've commented anywhere, at any site, then the platform provider has your email and IP, unless it's a techie who does have options - I know of some options but don't employ them.  Is it a big deal?  I'd say no for most but if a blogger like Adam, it might be.  If your visiting habits, with or without comment, include sites such as Vox, Conservative Woman, The Other McCain and so on, you might be on an 'of interest' list, how would I know?

Now, when you comment on Blogger, provided the admin has set protections in place, and that's no guarantee, I have here, be assured Blogger knows your email and IP but I myself have no access to the IP, which is good for readers.  If you comment at WP, same thing but also, WP shows me IP.  I have already sworn never, under any duress, to share that and there would never be any duress from Blogger or WP on me for the simple reason that they already know it.

Now, any techie reading this knows I'm cutting my own throat as we use NOWP as t'other site and mighty good it is too.  Because tweets display there.  How to change IP?  Change device - I have six altogether. But that becomes expensive unless you're a techie.

There's nothing stunning in what I've just written - anyone mid-tech level or above knows all these things. What would concern me is that a less knowledgeable online user might charge in to leave a comment on an 'enemy' site, to tell him/her off and it's welcome to my garden, said the spider to the fly.  Because he/she will use your details against you.

Can the platform provider be stopped from knowing those details?  Nope.  You use their platform, they know those details.  Can they hack your computer?  Not officially.  I'd advise keeping zero porn either on a device, hard drive or stick, ever.  Keep no personalised details on other people, I don't because if I'm raided, there are no details for them, that's just logical.  The other issue is if you're a virus carrier, computer type.  This is one good reason for the blogger to use Blogger or WP - they have pretty good filtration.  Plus I use Avast.  Plus there are the devices themselves.
