Devolution

 In reaction to this man's comment:

Bought this album when it came out. About a year later, Skylab fell out of orbit & burned up in the atmosphere. These DEVO guys were onto something.

They tell us that we lost our tails, evolving up from little snails, I say it's all  just wind in sails - are we not men? We are Devo.

... as the commenter at the top said - they were onto something here. 

Maybe not exactly as in the lyrics but their main premise that Man developed to a point and then began devolving - that does seem to have been borne out in public in 2011 to 2021, in education, in cyber matters too.  No one seems capable of anything now, including ethics and sanity.

A techie mate said there's been nothing truly signficant since the 90s and we can include AI in that.

In the Letterman interview, they're pretty much college kids fooling about, dressing to shock, wicked sense of humour, yet they still have that basic premise and many posts both here and elsewhere, e.g. on the dumbing down, do nothing to explode that 'conspiracy theory'.

Of course, there's an alternative explanation and that is the notion of interference in Man's path.  If he is designed to operate a certain way and there is an instruction manual on how he should go about life ... but then someone or something slithers in and whispers in his ear ... or in Eve's ... then the rest is history.
