[women] and the need to know all

A British study of 3000 women aged between 18 and 65 has found that four in 10 were unable to keep a secret, no matter how personal or confidential the news was. Researchers found that they will typically spill the beans to someone else in 47 hours and 15 minutes.

Six in 10 end up telling someone completely uninvolved so the person the secret belongs to won't find out. Three quarters say they are capable of keeping a secret, and 83 per cent consider themselves 100 per cent trustworthy within each particular friendship group. 40 per cent saying their husband was their ultimate confidant.

Hee hee. Anyone brave enough to comment? :)

  1. I can keep a secret if Im specifically asked. If not then no I probably can't keep my mouth shut with an opinion on something which is probably why I blog!

O/T but since you have such a prominent network of bloggers could I ask you to do a little post to circulate?

    Hi All

The Support our Soldiers Christmas Parcel Appeal 2009 is now launched.

Please help us show your support to our brave lads and lasses away from home this year.

50p will be donated to BLESMA (British Limbless Ex-Servicemen's Association) for every parcel sent.

We are pleased to have full endorsement from the MOD for our campaign. This is their official announcement:

"The MOD welcomes SOS‘s work. The aspiration to provide support to the men and women on the front line is shared by many of the public. This charity has arranged with the British Forces Post Office to send high quality parcels to named Service personnel on operations in a way which causes the minimum of disruption to the operational postal service.”

  2. This comes as no surprise.....I found out the hard way once in my naive youth.

It is so obvious it reminds me of a time when a friend of mine who had smoked an unfeasible quantity of skunk told me the "Scientists have discovered that most men find women attractive".....

  4. OK, JPT and TEV [TC] - thank you for that.

Alison - when I get home I'll check it out and find out what you actually want me to do - run it on the site or email it or what?

  5. Was it Orson Welles who said "There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."

I believe a good few ladies follow that maxim, though the biggest gossips I know are the guys I work alongside, nothing is sacred to them.......even to the point of making it up on occasion.

  6. Well...I ought to put up a post too on my blog but was at work til now. And maybe you could do something similar and get your prestigious network of bloggers to follow suit? :) I think they are a wonderful organisation, worthy of people's cash.. and now is the time to help them out to send parcels to our brave men and women in time for Christmas.

Who's Lord T by the way? Is that you?

  7. You use only the best butter, I see, Alison. :) It's a very worthy cause.

    Lord T, he's here.

  8. The purported Welles quotation sounded Wildean to me. But, keep this under your hats, I'm too tired to bother to check it.

  9. "Researchers found that they will typically spill the beans to someone else in 47 hours and 15 minutes."

That's only if they are held in solitary confinement for 47 hours first.

  10. Quiet Man, it was Wilde who said it, as Dearieme said. Dearieme, don't be too tired - your Eubie Blake is coming up tonight.

  11. I hope I haven't committed a faux pas by posting Alison'slink on my blog.
I'm sure I learned plenty of sensitive secrets during my time in the Civil Service but my abysmal memory, and not the Official Secrets Acts, prevents me from spilling any beans.

Maybe bloggers could run the post on Fridays and tag it "SOS Friday".

  14. I can keep a secret. BUT I have known men who can't.
Men are bigger gossips than women.

  15. I'm with Quiet Man and Uber. I know a lot of men who are incorrigible gossips. I think the truth is that most people would pass a "secret" on to at least one other person. I wouldn't, of course and your secret about knitting is safe with me, James.

  16. Welshcakes - don't tell them that and I beg of you - don't reveal about the crochet and needlepoint.
