[telemarketers] how to deal with them

Get thee over to Colin Campbell to find out how:

There's plenty of advice today on how to deal with these pests but in Britain there's another type of pest as well - the double-glazing salesperson:

The Double-Glazing salesperson along with the life insurance salesman, estate agent and used car salesman has often been the 'butt' of a comedian's joke and the general public's 'loathing'.

Or how about the Jehovah's Witnesses? How do you deal with those suits and ties?

  1. Here I use the same tactic as I did in Britain with telemarketeers: I just tell them ever so sweetly that I never buy anything over the phone but am happy to receive their information by post - unless it's Sky trying to sell me a sports channel and then I can't resist telling them that I hate all of the stuff. And I don't open the door to anyone I'm not expecting!

  2. I welcome unwelcome visitors, including Jehovah Witnesses, and so does Rocky barking wildly, and my hand firmly on his collar, I don't silence him and they tend to be already backing off as I say "no thank you". We make a good double act.

  3. For telemarketers I always say we just had that done last week (whatever they are selling)/ I don't take part in surveys.

We must be off the beaten track for Jehovah's witnesses and Mormons. I haven't seen one in decades.

  4. For the religious door knockers I am polite and tell them I'm not interested, telemarketers are another story. They are rude and obnoxious and don't know the meaning of no. I like to ask them all kinds of questions in return, their rate of pay, about unions etc, that gets rid of them quickly.

  5. I pretend I don't speak English. They usually hang up on me.

  6. I just choose telephone preference opt out... most calls are stopped! You still get one or two calls but you can get bossy and say no! quoting that you have opted out ;-) It's all to do with people selling lists which they use to phone people!

I am always more gently with local business phone calls they are just looking in the phone book for potential clients and they are a lot less pushy! They are more likely to get my business if I need what they are selling ;-)
