Imho, the ones causing all the mayhem, down to the stoopid little twerps avidly supporting the malaise (leftist hivemind) are all candidates for hell, though of course that’s up to the Lord hisself.

Some better news.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith appointed a “contrarian” doctor who expressed concerns about officials exaggerating the damage COVID-19 had on hospitals to lead a review of data collected from the pandemic.

Smith selected Dr. Gary Davidson because she wanted to hear from a wide variety of viewpoints, including those who had previously been “shouted down in the public sphere.”

Friday [1 to 3]

(0655) Morning all, bright sunshine out there, ok here but two long sleeps in a row have me surfacing, shakily, now.  Trusting you’re surviving too.  If not, come back, spook us and tell us what happened. (0747)

3.  DAD at NOWP

a) “Incomprehensible”, “very surprised”, “bizarre”… In the streets of the small town of Marignier (Haute-Savoie), the residents are dismayed: how could a teenager from this uneventful locality plan an attack terrorist during the Paris Olympic Games, in the name of the Islamic Caliphate?

Under the sun which lit up the sky of Haute-Savoie this Thursday, other neighbours came out of their homes to express their astonishment. “Z., a terrorist? But he is very small and skinny, he doesn’t even look 16,” said another neighbour who also noted that the teenager was often sick. Despite his visibly fragile health, he finished college last year and was now following professional training.

1.  Another early morn waffle

If I make light of death, chaps and chapesses, it’s because I both see it approaching on the horizon m’sel’, plus I’ve now entered the death zone commemmoration of my pa and ma.  My later stepdad was further down the track in midsummer.  Yep, both father and mother decided this half month was a good time to join the choir invisible.

You saw that chap Andrew Wade, the RN man, who departed last Saturday night and his was a tale that my mate up the road and I discussed.  See, there are two ways to go about this.

Many folks, for good reasons, decide to go the medical way about now … have all the exploratories from both ends, let themselves be drawn into the whole NHS thang (over here) … these are not recluses, they have family, that family wants a fair shot at grandpa being around (grandma too). All power to those folk and if something should appear internally shall we say, according to the NHS for example … then onto the chemo and lots of fun for those final years, months or weeks.

Andrew was like me and decided to go the other route. Not sure how clearly he was thinking because that pain was not fun, was going to be near impossible, despite the morphia. In that case, the nursing staff perhaps easing him out … who knows, who can say … well there might be a silver lining there.

See, there are all sorts of assumptions, aren’t there, with both lots of people (chemos and non-chemos so to speak).  Firstly, that it’s even the Big C in the first place which is doing for ya … could be many killing factors, not just that. Secondly, once the quality of life is gone, inc. mobility … that’s a big one … wwweeellllll … I for one think it’s probably time.

But there are two other crucial factors (crucial comes from crux or Cross). One is that for a believer, suicide in any form is a one way ticket to hell. Ain’t no heaven for those. And yet they’d say I have no understanding of real pain. Tell that to my knees, shoulder, elbow, to being eaten inside now and then.

My father was in real pain but he’d been through the war and had seen it up close. Granted, we cushy mid-boomers have not, on the whole, seen quite that thing … so sue me, as the Americans say. Is it my fault I’m a boomer? I’m not a bleedin’ heart boomer at least.

Where’s all this going? Well we make decisions, don’t we?  And I do NOT mean topping myself as that’s RIGHT out, d’y’hear. Right out. Given that, you can join the multitude and go the NHS route, let’s say, harassed till your dying day … or you can have a shorter bout of quality life … imho, mind you, all right?

How exactly is my health? Trained yesterday … gym … shall train tomorrow. Eating well, being a good boy with diet to a point. I’m ok for my years, nothing untoward inside, thank the Lord … maybe He has a purpose for the ole sinner yet.

Thursday [17 till close of play]

(1715). Evening all. Strange old day.

23.  A little number you might like from 1851

22.  Toodles

21.  There’s something happening outside

… which to my mind trumps all the sumptuous music, artistic and architectural delights and the beautifully photographed clouds over country lanes on social media today … and that’s nature herself for the last forty-five minutes from my window. The issue is how to put it into words … perhaps you have similar where you are.

For a start, post rush-hour, it went fairly quiet and that time arrived, once per day … only if the sun breaks through, mind … when everything out there glows … everything, even two miles away … buildings shine, buildings it never registered were actually there before.

The red brick opposite intensely, brightly glows right now, all looks shiny new … the clouds themselves are silhouetted, lit as if by spotlights … dark, brooding nimbus, white cumulus, jagged cirrus … and as if on cue, the birds crossing our line of vision are also brightly lit and glistening as they slowly flap wings …

I swear someone needs to capture this scene, fast fading now, dusk is nigh because the whole atmosphere has gone silent in an apocalyptic way … I can certainly imagine some concert in the distance with an opera tenor belting out that last crescendo … would make a smashing filum finale.

Even at this second, that fierce redbrick glow opposite fades and the walls are once again dull … I gaze from left to right across the field of vision, from one end of the valley to t’other.

Readers … this has a most apocalyptic feel to it, as if it were the end of an era, or even of civilisation … amazing sight out there … and then it’s over … red sky darkening.

Oh wow … now a rainbow from the other side of the valley, arcing over our house but lost in angry dark clouds … raindrops on the window panes.

20.  Have a good evening

Apologies for that last one … our classicists tearing their remaining hair out … I liked it. :)

19.  Been thickening cream

Apart from that, I was revisiting some “music” which I must not assume is not your cuppa cha but it might not be.

It was from a time, a circle I was mixing with where everything was highly stylised, even high camp, evening sophistication, outfits, where the jazz was supper clubbish and the atmosphere chill.

Had to choose three songs from those on the left … two selected themselves … the besame mucho and the rigoletto … but the third, to go in the middle, was far more difficult … avoiding over fixation on the underdressed femme, keeping to the evening mood, avoiding crooning and latin singing.

We’ve already had una rosa and Jamaican … chorus just going oooo oooo all the way through.

So, think it might be memories. Coming up.

(1413) Afternoon all.

16.  A bit of a roundup

15.  Mate and I were discussing shadowbanning

… lists, machine learning etc. and I checked the sites. Interesting thing … not a problem, mind you, you do exactly as you will … but no comments whatever today, from anyone, not even spam.  Obvious thought is I wonder if those above are doing something and just not saying.  Could even be QHCG, who knows?

Thing is, there are ways around it, but that’s down the track.  Anyway, if you’re seeing this, hope you’re having a wunnerful afternoon, not at the dentist or about to be hanged.

Thur-mat

A lighthearted little comedy … not:

A hangman conceals his true identity when he falls in love, and sets up home with his girl on a barge in the river Thames. Tragedy strikes when the hangman's assistant tries to seduce his boss's wife - after a fight, the hangman is presumed drowned. The woman commits suicide, but the hangman has in fact survived, and manages to save his assistant from the gallows.

Review

I reckon this has to be the best outing for Ann Todd ("Frankie") that I've seen. Here she plays the girlfriend of Eric Portman ("Eddie") who is really a hangman, but who doesn't want her to know so pretends to be a salesman to explain his frequent, and often overnight, absences from their home on a barge he has inherited. It's during one of those absences that she finds herself the focus of the unwarranted attentions of the rather uncouth "Olaf" (Maxwell Reed) and... Compton Bennett has created a clever piece of cinema here; we are given much of the bones of the story but have to come to a few of our own conclusions as tragedy ensues. According to the BBFC, the film wasn't cut at the time but it doesn't look like it - there are gaps that sort of make sense, but there are quite a few that clearly don't and that disjoints the narrative and occasionally spoils what is otherwise a complex tale. Well worth a gander.
