Thursday [4 to 6]

(0405) Morning all … slightly better sky. Evets is up across the way, plus new post. Small break now for brek, allowing us to eat, do our rounds, read etc. Feature at 0645 and next post of this kind about 0730. (0613)

6.  DAD at NOWP

a) VTB Bank PJSC filed the suit against JPMorgan and its subsidiaries in the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region on April 17, according to the court’s database. While court documents didn’t detail the main basis for the suit, they said VTB had requested provisional steps because the defendants were “taking measures to withdraw their assets” from Russia while the state-controlled lender was seeking to recover about $440 million from JPMorgan.

b) A judge is asked...."Why did you decide to join the National Rally Political Party?"

Pascale Piera's reply....  "This is obvious to me given the situation our country is going through. I spent more than thirty years in the legal field, both as a lawyer at the Paris bar and then as a criminal magistrate for nearly twenty years, where I notably exercised the functions of judge of freedoms and of detention.

From this experience, I established a particularly alarming observation about the state of the judicial institution which, faced with the increase in delinquency and the helplessness of victims

Take, for example, the link between immigration and delinquency. It is a great taboo within the body of the judiciary, a symbolic example of the influence of political correctness. However, the facts are there: 17% of crimes and misdemeanours are perpetrated by foreigners, with a particular prevalence for everything relating to thefts with or without violence and burglaries. In a city like Marseille, we reach 67%".

c) Journalist arrives at Paris.

"Return from Ecuador, reception committee at Roissy - fake taxis no doubt - who call me Islamophobe and racist. I alerted police officer who cannot do anything, of course.

Welcome to France !"

d) The violence is coming closer to me. Twenty-six years ago, when I retired to France, something like this was unimaginable.

"It was around 1 p.m., Saturday April 20, 2024, when the Clou-Bouchet district, in Niort, [Deux-Sevres] was once again the scene of a violent attack. According to our information, a young man was seriously injured by several stab wounds, after having had a violent altercation with a group of individuals...."

4.  Quick procedural note

… for readers, inc. our Ivan … the redaction decision on every item is how much to include. While the hyperlink issue is acknowledged, sometimes it’s of little value to include among the plethora of headlines early morn … for example, this item:

Everything under the text is pretty unnecessary, except maybe to say it’s from The Telegraph, thus:

But that’s ugly, not unlike the Household Cavalry horses bolting where a part pic appeared.  Why not just include the whole thing? Column space … it just lengthens the scrolling time and after the 14th or so item, it becomes a pain, not to mention the cost to the site in finite space used up … we do have a set allocation you know and ONO is over a third full already, which slows things down.

Juggling act.

ANZAC Day [1 to 3]

(0259) Though nearly 3 a.m. and not warm, to the point the heating needs to be on in late April, I slept all right through retiring early … not refreshed though and the only reason I mention it is that “sleep” is an issue now for many (more on this later today). (0402)

2.  Analysis of an issue

As X becomes the premier news and views exchange platform for those not tik-tokked or whatever else the young left use, so it comes under heavyweight fire and certain layouts and practices have crept in, including shadow banning, outright banning and if opposed, as it’s a big player, when reinstated, it’s minus 600k followers (in the case of Radio G).

My explanation is that it might be Musk, maybe not. His focus is on many things, inc. Space X, and so someone or something like AI deputises. Much was made of 70% plus of the Dorsey Woke departing but that still leaves 30% and the Dorsey rump are not in the menial areas.

It makes treatment of issues in any serious way difficult and this is one of those:

Covered here at ONO and I’ll also run this at OoL … it’s a drop in the ocean while we’re distracted by another drop in the ocean … five illegals killed yesterday by fellow illegals, all who paid money on the French side of the channel for a place in a dinghy … the dinghy racket allowed and abetted by both UK and French govt, using the help of the navies, plus bodies such as the RNLI, volunteers with CEOs and HQs on big money … fake charities.

The redacting reorganisation at X does not help bring any issues in depth … rather news “bites” … which people base views on in lieu of something in more depth.

Given the sheer number of issues we’re flooded with, is it any wonder many slip by unscrutinised, esp. on four or five person blogs we’re the main redactor has the same overall sleep issue (later) as many do.

1.  ANZAC Day

An old post on the day and some observations follow it:

http://www.anzacsite.gov.au/1landing/bgrnd.html

The 1500 on the first day seems correct but there may be some question over the origin of the “lions led by donkeys” expression … it might be far older than 1915.

2023/24 again … whatever the exact details, it was the coming of age of a nation called Australia, quite unbeknowns to the British.

To underscore this, here’s a British take on the campaign:

Wednesday [14 till close of play]

(1658)

25.  On Wed 23

24.  Do you think she's sounding quite VPish here?

23.  Sorry to bring this just now

... but duty demands, was hoping Wed 22 might be our last. Keeping a few back for tomorrow morn with no time frame but this seems now-ish in London:

She's just added:

22.  ... before Marie, one of our nature tweeters

"There are two words that will open many doors for you in life: PULL and PUSH. Good night my dears ✨✨ "

Awwwwww.

21.  Brief return to the Frenetic ...

20.  (1804) Brief pause for reflection, readers

For me, the saddest X post, if indeed true, is that lady's about her husband yet it was 14 hours ago, plus a half hour ago now when I saw it.

Have to stop a moment, chaps and chapesses ... that one knocked me for six. Hope and pray she had support given online ... I'll go back and check that one out.

(1844 ... couldna find it again.)

Also don't forget IYE's McD's piece at NOWP.  The ticker just told me someone had commented on it. Hang on, I'll go and have a look.

It was Digger:

Regard it as a joke, Digger. Meanwhile, the heart issue from an hour ago and the stabbing pains in the arteries seem to have subsided in ole Higham for now ... liquid and movement, people ... does wonders.  I see Dearieme's just replied on the London thing, plus Digger on Pippa and Kate.

Dearieme: "7 A local magistrate lost his head and sent in the cavalry. In other words it was scarcely "about" anything, just an ordinary cock-up by a (very junior) arm of the state."

(Reference to Peterloo)

Digger's I'll reply under the quiz.

Have a good dins or lunch in the States or evening afternoon tea.

On 12. Afternoon roundup

Regarding Alex Bath's comment about the 'Rwanda plan' there's a reciprocal arrangement, and that is every illegal immigrant they take from us we take in a Rwandan immigrant. Assuming they fill this hotel in Rwanda, some 300 rooms, an equal sum will fill British hotels - undoubtedly at far greater cost. Go figure?

15.  Keep your eye on this

... it's developing as we write:

14.  I open to a nightmare

First of all, I fell asleep straight after the Moosh item, second day running, plus feeling not well, which was not helped by IYE and that item on McDonald’s at NOWP 644:4 presented by some jihadi.

So, trying to get some sort of order going here and heart not too great, I saw two items needing doing but in attempting to do them, this resulted:

You can see the normal script size in the Natcon item at the foot of those. That makes it impossible to report on the story. Essentially, Sunak has agreed to a send one from here to Rwanda, get a piece of Rwandan riffraff back … at what cost?  No wonder the redaction is all over the place.

All right, so I leave that and go to the two tier policing story:

Notice the enlarged, superimposed Cole response … reaction was swift:

Meanwhile, reaction came first in Brazil, now in Australia, to attempts to shut X twitter down, except Elon is fighting back.

  7. What was Peterloo about?

What if …

… and if only … and what couldabeen.  No regrets over the demise of das Boot, no choice in 2017 … plus I couldna now … but but but … were I starting out, like … how would I do it?

Well, monohull, a cruising boat based on this basic shape of hull:

… 43 feet long deliberately … 44.5 is the largest “pleasure craft” in the UK and that’s too long for my carvel and chine method … around 7 feet wide, so berths can go across.  Only talking hull, not rig.

Shallow full length keel, deep V to about 2.5 feet, rudder at end of skeg. End on, it looks a bit this way, only multiplied of course:

Narrow, highsided, despite windage, very strong below.  So to rig … no photos have what I want in the rig but this gives some idea:

Sails on the fore and mizzen equal the area of the mainmast. Three foresails … yankee, jib, staysail with boom to foremast. Mainmast has three separate square sails, mizzen (aft) is just a gaff rig with two reefing points.

What that produces is a lovely tracking boat, no yawing or pitching and not fast enough to shoot off waves. Downside is not manoeuvrable, so not suited to in-waters, it’s a voyaging boat. Crew of three has enough room.

I’ve sailed on one of those old dinghies, narrow, highsided, heavy … we were in a gale and she just sailed straight through it … similar motion to a long, loping, touring car.
