Monday [14 to 17]

(1322) Afternoon all. (1355)

16.  Potatoes

Interesting scrolling through X posts earlier and in one, there was a photo where the guy had peeled two middling size potatoes … they were basically ok, presumably for making chips … except for black spots maybe a third of an inch beneath the surface … five or six of them.

Sold by the local supermart apparently.

Didn’t think much about it until I had a delivery and was peeling two myself … well, have gay relations with me if they weren’t in similar condition … I peeled and peeled until they were two-thirds the size, still chippable but still … made one think about the crops this year.

Yesterday I linked a report about US Abrams tanks being easy meat for drone attacks. This has attracted some return fire, so to speak, from official sources.

The following is Neil Oliver's monologue + courtesy of Richie Reports UK. The plus bit is Neil with Col. Doug Macgregor. The reason for it will become clear - and if, as I did, you watched it last night you will know about the hard edit.

Neil Oliver's Friday Monologue - 26th April 2024. Full version (No ads!) |

Here's the live transmission (Sunday) of the show and at 24:24 mins Col. Macgregor gets the chop:

Though on the online (pre-transmission) show he doesn't:

  2. Supermarket veg. It's been over a year since they stopped putting best before dates on veg. I have recently had onions which seems firm but are off in the middle, spuds ok so far. I have seen warnings and mutterings all over the internet about poor harvests this year due to the weather. Heavy rain at exactly the wrong time has ruined many crops. I am hoping that my garden will provide some decent stuff this year.

The brown innards, spots etc of fruit and veg is down to the storage. They store it in sealed buildings that have had the air replaced with nitrogen. Stuff that will store for a long time, obviously, lots of things won't.
Stops the natural ripening process sure enough but once air replaces the nitrogen its game on.
