Note that "Genetic studies suggest that the first people to arrive in the Americas descend from ..." is a bad way to phrase it. All that genetic studies can tell you is about the genetics of the present "Red Indians" and those older human remains you can test.
ReplyDeleteAn earlier population would not show up in the genetics if they left no trace in the modern population and you haven't found any of their corpses. You'd then have to depend on archaeology.
Still, I suspect nothing much hangs on the question.
