Last post

The previous post will continue as the last post of the day in a political way, MftWC ... this is a fraught post just now. There's a vlogger, a lady, and I ran one of hers long ago. Within days they were heavying her, so she said ... I do fear for the good people we inadvertently lead to after someone guilt-trips us.

Anyway, this is a good middling tale, pleasant, no notes:

  1. I watched the 2hr (French) version on TPTV last night - some good supporting actors/actresses, but the lead and the police inspectors lacked something. Much prefer Rupert Davies + his Lucas and Michael Gambons character - maybe it's the direction that makes the films more atmospheric (or something)?

    1. JH: Yes, similar with the maid Felice. The Gambon was superb, real repartee by two excellent actors ... chemistry. Did not see a Davies version but did watch the Bruno Cremer. The girl was really not great, BCr was good, setting suthentic of course but it had an interminable Simenon feel to it, everyone depressed.

I once shared a sandwich with Michael Gambon - we were discussing the finer points of bench lathes at a fayre in Hampshire when he made the offer. So, mug of tea each we took a small table and munched down on the cheese and ham he'd bought. This was 1989 and I didn't really know how good an actor he was at that time. We were both engineering craftsmen: Gambon a Toolroom machinist, me a universal miller. We talked about our apprenticeships, which he enjoyed as most people only want to know about his acting work. Nice bloke.
