It’s never been one continuous history of warring tribes, has it? From the Murrayans and Carpentarians to the little Negritos. Oz history is totally different to any other land on the planet … in other lands, tribe comes in, gets displaced by a stronger and more warlike tribe, many massacres … that worlwide pattern never happened in Oz, so the govt says. Aborigs were all lovable furry creatures like koalas, would not hurt a fly, every tribe exactly the same … one big happy family, everyone living each other and hugging any trees they could find. Yes? Just as the Wokerati say.

ReplyDeleteI have been to Aus many times, to many different places, and whenever possible went to museums.
Some had extensive collections of artefacts of indigenous peoples (The indiginies, as my Aus friend called them. Aboriginies, Abos are big No-No). In every museum, wherever, all the locals had produced in 30 thousand years were crude weapons.
The highest tech thing was the woomera. A device for throwing a spear faster and further. Which Western civilisation has adapted to throw balls for pet dogs.
But they had a wonderful culture. By means of story telling they could find their way in the huge continent, and they can produce marvellous music from tree branches hollowed out by termites.
JH: The returning boomerang was pretty good too. I threw one of them once, it got about halfway around … the physics does work.
