I first saw that film as a youngster, old enough to appreciate MM yet still a bit naïve. The bits where Jack and Tony wore drag made me feel uneasy. Just instinct I suppose. Still a good film though, it would make it into my desert island list.
I didn't see it as drag. Men have disguised themselves as women to evade nasties in times of war for example. Are they to be considered drag queens? Absolutely not! I saw it as MM being exploited, in particular in the white dress with the barely there sequins and the spot light. She might as well have been topless but that wouldn't have been allowed past the censors.
The thing is now with all the BS from the pervs in our faces it spoils everything else. All our memories of where we were and/or who we were with and/or what was happening in our lives when we first saw SLIH have been tainted by the plotting psychopaths.
