Midweek sermon

This was a YT recommended … Sandra Hart, ex Romper Room host, Pittsburg area, broken family, actress, 83 now in Florida, maybe Miami. I was interested in the 83 bit, as those in their 80s whom I know tend not to give advice.  It would be helpful to one still young[ish].

Many of these points are quite good, I add some to them.

1.  Don’t wish your life away. Set a goal and pursue it.  This alo relates to setting projects.

2.  Don’t take on something you’re hesitant about. This is related to n5 and cuts both ways.  If something seems iffy, it may well be but we can be wrong.  She missed an opportunity she should have taken.

3.  Do not hide your love, do not take it for granted. Always be supportive of your children but it’s one direction only, you’ll never get the same love back from them.

4.  Don’t hold onto bitter feelings. Cut your losses and learn.  Grudges, brooding resentment … they just eat us up.  The bad side then wins.  That’s important for us at N.O.  We are heat seeking missiles, caustic, distrusting, that’s our job.  However, once we’ve done for the bstds, drop what they did to us.  Life’s too short. But watch your perimeter defences all the same.

5.  Don’t ignore your intuition.  Distance yourself if necessary. Walk away. Uh huh, I’d add that sometimes one must act fast to counter a threat, with terminal prejudice.  Not to do so out of some misplaced dogoodism just makes it worse.

6.  Don’t get stuck. Do what it takes. Always have a mission or project.  Well yes.  No navel gazing, moping … well 5 minutes maybe, then get going again. If you have no project, devise one.

7.  Don’t stop educating yourself. She’s telling N.O. readers that?

8.  Don’t lose your individuality.  Again, she’s telling N.O. readers that?

Two of mine:

9.  Don’t let them rush you.  Big, big point.  They want it done yesterday, they want you to drop everything.  Sometimes, even five years constitutes ‘dropping everything’.  Some things do take ages to unfold … it’s not procrastination, it’s n2 above, first sentence.

10.  Dump false gods now.  Ditch that ego. My logic says to trust only a God who offers a tough road, comfort, support and clarity of mind, plus a path to redemption.  Others may differ of course and prefer money, fame, sex, being a big shot.

  1. As I am another 80+ years old, I would put Nos 1, 3 and (especially) 4 are very important. Yes, to all the rest.
