Think the word they use is 'seminal', the seed of something new and bands such as this one, a bit like the Yardbirds, combined attitude, take no prisoners voice, indie, garage, nice simple riffs and rhythms, amazing drumming. They, like Modern Lovers, were exactly what was needed for that time.
