Not pleasant

Curious one for AKH to send but he says: "Don't know if you've seen this 1955 film with Dirk Bogarde and Margaret Lockwood but it's a watchable drama with Bogarde as a creepy murderer."

I watched bits but there's a specific reason I myself can't watch this film and it's to do with loyalty to a friend ... though I do know how it ends without watching the end - no doubt you'll know too.

  1. My mother couldn't stand the man, she called him Dirtbox Bogarde. Once watched Death in Venice, under protest mind you. I felt violated.

    1. May have been an error of mine to run it. Oh well, it's done now.

    2. I can't stand "Dirtbox" either. I once tried to listen to him reading one of his own novels. I managed about 5 sentences. It was cr@p and he was a cr@p reader. Another cr@p reader, imho, was Joan Hickson surprisingly enough. I was looking forward to listening to her reading a Miss Marple tale but was so disappointed! She had no inflections in her voice at all - completely monotoned and flat. Almost robotic. Much better at acting.

Nevermind. Into every life some rain must fall.

Here's another Margaret Lockwood if anyone is interested.

    3. Shall look. With JH, that was her Marple persona - dour and sour. At that she excelled. I can't look at modern Marples after her.

    4. Aye, she was the quintessential Miss M. Those before were miscast or given the Hollywierd treatment and those afterwards were fiddled with by pervasive wokery.
