Flying boats

Short version:

Long version:

Time to air a grievance and I know I’m not in a minority of one here - there were four upvotes at one vlog I mentioned it at and that’s the use of loud music in videos.  Since I began online, I’ve been moaning about sailing videos - for some reason, yachties choose the most appalling noise, called music.  Also, they mostly seem left-liberal for some reason, which is curious, given the cost of these craft.

Travelogues still have the disease, this mania to drown out serious commentary with distracting noise - why on earth do they do it?

  1. I dislike loud music in videos too. Sometimes it comes across as an amateurish attempt to copy the professionals, to create drama and impact via the music. Doesn't work.

I've come across quite a few instances of music as background to a commentary or narration which doesn't work at all because the volume is far too high in relation to the narrator's voice. Can happen even when the narrator has a pleasant voice, good diction and doesn't need any background music.

    1. Precisely. The relative volumes are a major issue and as you say, if his/her voice is pleasant enough, then it suffices without embellishment. Thank goodness podcasts, apart from the awful cacophony at beginning and end, are generally all voice.
