Notice before starting this post - politics resumes at 19:00 after the music, already there are items in the pipeline needing presenting.
The first is a rare gem to find - history from the perspective of the [then] enemy. We’re stuck in our own language by and large, which restricts our vision on a topic, so to hear a German on this is worth the effort:
The second is quite the opposite. The topic itself is worthy, if a bit obvious - why Britain swelters in 27C but why it would be around 34C before Australians started to feel it. Actually, there are two things wrong here - the first being the ABC calling this “in depth” - for a high school student maybe. The second objection - well I’ll address that after the clip:
All right, did you spot the issue? Yep, she repeatedly used the word “our” as an Australian, except for one prob … she’s not ethnically Australian … she’s Asian, South East Asian. Nowt wrong with the lass being there in Oz, if she went through the right channels and didn’t come in illegally, fine. Although I’d suspect the ABC of being like the BBC in this respect - I’d not put it past them to slip an illegal into the broadcast, getting her to say “we do this, we do that”, just to annoy Australians and virtue signal.
Real Australians are those who were there before Federation, which obviously includes the aborigines, plus other Europeans who settled in the 1800s. And it’s one of those who should have narrated this clip.
It’s quite an affront for an ethnic Chinese to address natives as “us”. Again - nothing wrong wih the girl … but not presented in this manner, that’s all.
The ABC could have got around it with a change in script or else put someone else in. And it would be no point putting an aborigine in because he has a different metabolism to the Caucasian … the topic was comparing Britland and Ozland in terms of house design, not comparing ethnicities. On every level, it was a total w**k.
