  5. Laika was the name of the dog not the breed. Laika was a mongrel stray from Moscow.

All those with No.2 right please reduce score by one.

  6. Sorry, Lord T. Laika is a Russian word for husky and the two dogs were name Belka and Strelka. Tehre was never one called Laika - it's a breed.

  7. Further, Lord T:

The Russians always found it amusing that the English speakers could make such a fundamental error when a little research would have helped.

Laika is a hunting dog breed. Here is the Wiki entry.

Take your pick of sites for Belka and Strelka.

Think we'd best get to that space site and correct them, m'lord.

  8. When I say there never was one - there might have been a stray called Laika but it was not the one which went up in the ship.

  9. LOL. Well now I know but the breed is husky then. Unless of course we are now speaking Russian by default.

I can understand how there was a mix up over the names but all the english space sites call the dog Laika. I stand corrected.

However you question was what the breed was. The breed was Husky according to your statement but the Russian word for Husky is Laika. So all those that answered the first question with Laika get the point for Laika in the second question.

Bit of a swizz if you ask me.
