[quick question] for americans

If someone suggested you took the 10 E 15 N 70 E 78 E or maybe the 10 E to 15 N to 40 E to 44 E to 70 E to 79 N to 80 E, if someone else said to take the I-95S to I-10W and another the 10 E to 15 N to 40 E to 44 E to 70 E to 79 N to 80 E, between which major [and I mean really major] cities would they have been discussing a possible route?

  1. I-95 runs down the eastern seaboard; I-10 starts (I think) in Jacksonville, Florida. Going west you would go though Tallahassee, probably Mobile, New Orleans, Texas... all the way to the west coast.
Imagine the Interstate System as a grid: Even-numbered highways (I-10 in Florida, I-20 in SC, etc.) are east/west highways numbered from south to north.
Odd-numbered highways are north/south highways numbered from west (I-5 in California) to east (I-95 on east coast).

Anyway, wiki prob explains it better:

  4. OK - it was a forum discussion between people who wanted to go from LA to New York.

Opinion was that the southern route was more scenic. Sure I don't know but it would seem to me the northern route, great lakes etc., would be just as nice.

I only know the west coast and I do know that pretty well, from Mexico to Van in Canada.

Thanks, Lord Somber, for explaining that. Thanks, HGF and Matt. Internet is an amazing thing, isn't it? We're talking as if we're in each other's living room and yet we're so far apart.

  5. James,
I was familiar with the roads as the 15 is just a stone's throw away. The others sounded familiar as I have family in Pennsylvania. I had fun with it, googled on mapquest and followed the roads east out of the city of Victorville.
I've been the southern route, saw the Grand Canyon. The northern route was nice, went through South Dakota and saw Mt. Rushmore. The best roadtrip, though, was from California to the Canadian Rockies. :)
