[thought for the day] monday evening

Mediocrity tends to a tolerance of everything but excellence.

  1. Starbucks. Would you spend £3.50 for a milky coffee?

  2. Random Starbucks facts;

    It is partly named after Starbuck from Moby Dick.

    The mermaid logo is actually a derivative of the Sheila-Na-Gig.

  3. When you post a photo of Starbucks that statement is given life!

    The logo s based on a sheela na gig? I thought it was a mermaid. It certainly diesn't look like the sheela na gig the not-wife bought last month!

  4. I would happily patronise the local coffee shop over the Starbucks next door... except for the snooty attitudes and slow service I run into. Local does not necessarily mean better as I’ve eventually learned. BTW, their prices are comparable and I don’t pay more than $2 for a simple drip coffee.
    Whoever gets me my caffeine fix fastest wins in my book ;)

  5. She is certainly a lot less crude than the more traditional Sheila-Na-Gig, yes.

    More accurately, the logo is a female siren - she's a mermaid combined with a Sheila-Na-Gig. The two fish tail looking things at either side of her head is her two fishy legs split open revealing her genitalia.

    It was a lot more obvious on there old logos, it's been toned down a lot since then.
