[blog notes] patterns of visitors

To look at this, you could be forgiven for thinking this is a U.S. blog. Look at mid-evening, London time though and the story is usually so different. Last evening I had my best Brit stats in a long while - 55% of readers were from the U.K.

I never planned the blog to be that way and yet it's a delight and I now try to plan the posts with the target readers in mind.

Days of the week is another very consistent thing. There've rarely been weeks, except with a major holiday, where it varies. Saturday is usually my shocker for visitor numbers, Sunday picks up, Monday and Tuesday peak, Wednesday begins the slide down to Saturday.

What's your pattern?

  1. I havent set up any site meters or anything as i wasnt bothered about numbers but have been very surprised to have had so many views in about a month since my blog went public. Not high high numbers but still its more than enough to make me happy. ;-)

  2. Kate - I need it to look at referrals and go back to those sites, also to keep the country balance.

I like to look at most viewed posts too to get an idea.

Overall numbers I'm happy with and they aren't an issue.

  3. Im a little selfish i blog to make myself happy. I do want people to read what i post though obviously.
My top post so far is about lewisham post office which i think is good as it shows what people are interested in.
In general i want to write about things important to me as i know there are many people who share the same problems but i dont want it to be all doom and gloom. Maybe i should put more thought into what i do...just lack concentration to be more organised as a blogger.

  4. A typical day would have the US as top country folowed by the UK. The next most frequent visitors tend to be from Ireland, Australia, Romania, Canada, Germany and India.

Most of my traffic is from searches.

  5. Yes, a lot of mine is too but after the gay thing the google went down. At the same time the Reader allowed me to visit more bloggers and so it evened up.

  6. Am not in blogs for a popularity status.

  8. My country share shows 68% from the UK; 13% USA; Germany 3%; Canada and Spain at 2%; and the remaining countries all at 1%. With the exception of China which has censored my blog with the Great Firewall of China.

The last few days has seen my visitor stats go through the roof on two posts from September and October last year. They are Clarence Mitchell tipped off the McCanns to Portuguese police monitoring them, and the minor royal in the blackmail scandal.

  9. Mine is 78% North America followed by 8% Asia and then 6% Europe.

I get more from Google search than anything and I don't think most of them return. I didn't create my site for anyone but me, but in February I had over 1,000 visits and so when I blog now I try to take into consideration that someone will see it.

  10. I watch stats just for interest. Weekend numbers always drop, we must get work tea break readers. UK is usually top with the USA very close. Then it's France, Sweden etc. I dont promote the blog in any way and so when people find us I'm always pleased. My stats come from google analytics which I find not terribly reliable.

  11. I like stats just to see where people come from. Mine take a nosedive on a saturday (I thought that was general to blogs) but unlike other posters most of my visits come from the UK. BG

  12. I like to see where people come from too, and yes Saturday is always a slow day. The saddest thing I have seen in my stats was someone searching for job losses on Christmas day!
