[visiting] order of visitation

Just deleted a comment - a rare event on this blog.

The reason? It feels like Guido to say it but the format: "I'm lucky to have found this blog, please visit me and comment at …" sounds to me like spam.

Anyway, let's wait and see if he returns. Meanwhile - the visiting technique [revised]:

1] Visit all those in the MyBlogLog panel in the left sidebar;

2] Go to sitemeter, click on referrals and go to whatever sites visited in the last 100;

3] Go to Blogpower;

4] Visit the others.

The problem is people like Bryan Appleyard and Oliver Kamm who never seem to visit anyone and yet how do we know? They might be visiting and my primitive mechanisms don't pick it up. And is "people visiting us" the sole criterion?

Anyway, that's the way it will run for now.

  1. Jeez. It's your life you organise it as you wish. If anyone says otherwise give me a call and I'll tell you about a hand signal you can use when discussing it with them.

    Just visit me and leave a comment. Oh! Sorry.

  2. I delete those normally on the grounds that they are span- I've had all sorts linking back normally to gambling websites- oddly its one post that attracts them all, not sure why as its quite short but there you are...

  3. I don't like deleting and have only deleted one to date.
    One thing that you could try James, is one that I have used and seems to work.
    Which is visting the person who left the comment and simply expressing the fact that you didn't much care for the comment. By responding at their site, if done tactfully, they will get what you mean and delete it themselves.
    If they do this, it shows a 'no hard feelings attitude'- on both parts. And you may well continue as normal.
    If they do not, delete it but with a sorry heart.

    I know what you mean though, it just feels wrong deleting.

  4. I had to delete a spam comment today too. From a nurse selling scrubs! I am linked on quite a few medblog blogs so I guess that's how she found me. The thing is I do read some nurses' blogs, so maybe she would be interesting to read anyway.

    You need to persuade everyone to join mybloglog for your scheme to work. Less than half my regular readers (all 10 of them) are on mybloglog. Do you know how to get more showing at the one time? I notice your list much bigger so how do you change it? Did you maybe pay money?

    You go to a lot of trouble to catch everyone. You're a good blog person!

  8. Bag - good point - sometimes we can become too old-maidish.

    Tiberius - You don't know how I enjoy it whenever you grace the comments.

    Crushed - I really like your outlook on things.

    JMB - no I can't pay money [not being on the grid and all] but if you go in and where it asks you to check "show names", uncheck it.

    There is also the question of half size or full size.

    Lord Nazh - touche!

    Mutley - you're one who can do that any time you want.

    Jack - maybe, maybe although lately it's dropped right back. The oterh guys' advice of not worrying about it seems the only way to go.

  10. I was thinking about you while cleaning, James, and a comment I intended leaving on this post. Then when I looked at my blog I discovered you had just visited me, so thank you. Shall I still make the comment? Hm, yes, with tongue in cheek.

    I notice you vist most often - judging by your comments - when the site is owned by attractive single women ...

  11. You say that like its a bad thing Liz o.O

    There's all kinds of things I prefer single attractive women for ;)

  12. Not at all, Lord Nazh, although
    personally I prefer good-looking young men.

    I just feel left out. :(

    Liz, you couldn't be thinking of a certain Minnesota girl, could you? Anyway, they never look at me. The more experienced tend to.

    Now that's ambiguity for you!
