[blogging test] put these in their correct order

In which order of importance should these activities be rated?

1] visiting other sites for interest but not to show you've been there;
2] visiting other sites and leaving comments to show you've been there;
3] attending to your comments section, answering what your commenters say;
4] creating interesting new posts;
5] increasing your stats through various schemes like RSS feeds and MyBlogLog;
6] just posting your point of view on something with no concern about who reads it.
7] other blog purpose.

  1. 6,4,3,1,2 & 5.

    Not sure what 7 would be for me but you'll know I've ranted against the blogger's addiction o traffic many, many times. Too many people have it as their primary concern when it should be a tertiary one at best - the writing (good, bad or indifferent) comes first.

    The "I'll link to you if you link to me mentality" is the best example of the bloggers folly.

  2. Joint 1st: 4, 6 & 7

    Joint 2nd: 1,2 & 3

    Last 5

    7 for me would be blogging as a writing exercise and an opportunity to empty my brain

  3. I blog for me - if other people read it, that's great, but it doesn't really matter all that much. Of course I'd be lying if I said I didn't care about my stats at all, but they're not particularly important to me.

    When I visit other sites, I visit because I want to read what they have to say, and I only comment if I actually have something to say on the issue. Otherwise what's the point?

    I blog because I enjoy blogging. What other reason is there?

  4. 4,1,6,3,2,5.
    Building a blogosphere that rivals the MSM must be top priority. Schemes to attract traffic are useless - people will only revisit if you've something worth saying. So that's 4 and 5 positioned.
    I'm not sure about the point of replying to commenters; I like to let criticisms stand as they are so the reader can judge, unless they are factually incorrect.

  5. 4, 3, 1. 7 for me is disciplining myself to write [almost] every day and sometimes to let off steam.

  6. I've read through this range of opinions - Liam, Liz, Thunderdragon, chris and Welshcakes and they each have their points. The point:

    "I'm not sure about the point of replying to commenters; I like to let criticisms stand as they are so the reader can judge, unless they are factually incorrect."

    ... can perhaps be answered by saying that it's just to acknowledge and let commenters see you do actually read their comments. Ellee is one of the best for this and I notice Chris does it too on occasions.

  7. What ThunderDragon said, especially about commenting, and in the order Liam ranked it, although myself, I would put 5 somewhere around tenth or twelfth out of seven... As I've been saying elsewhere, recently, it's no good just ramping up traffic if you're not going to do anything with it once it reaches you.

  8. I visit blogs so that I can see what others think of things mainly. I visit sites from different leanings. If I think there is something I could contribute I will comment. If not I'll go on to the next article. I blog about things that catch my eye and I feel strongly about and if I'm busy at work it tends to be superficial stuff such as technology or pointing out something that made me smile. I have no idea what my stats are as blogger doesn't do it and I can't be bothered to set up anything for myself. I read all my comments when I get the EMail. Depending on time I may not read till the next day.

    Conclusion I have three levels. 6 is number 1. 5 & 7 are joint bottom at 3. The rest are at the same level 2.

    Why do I have to be so bloody awkward?
