The Menezes situation Commander Cressida Dick is to become a deputy assistant commissioner and Britain has a right to be flabbergasted. However, am I the only one who thinks that, accepting for one moment the crass actions of the officers involved, nevertheless the point stands that Menezes did act in a highly questionable manner on the day, at a highly charged time, in a highly charged atmosphere and despite warnings. After reading several versions of what happened in Menezes last hours, it seems to me he did little that could be construed as a terrorist-like act.
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't wearing the alleged winter jacket in summer, he didn't leap over the turn style and wasn't given to threatening behaviour.
I'm still in the police-shot-first-and-thought-later camp on this one.
