Norman Geras mentions a Guardian article which lists possible replacements:

# Prince Zeid Ra'ad Zeid al-Hussein of Jordan;
# Ban Ki-moon, the South Korean foreign minister;
# Shashi Tharoor, a UN under-secretary of state, from India;
# Nirj Deva, British Conservative Euro-MP.

I can’t get this to come to 5 candidates but Norm assures us it is so.
