[england] home of the haggis

Just popped into the Clubhouse for a quick snifter and saw this and this, about the English inventing haggis. LOL. Personally speaking, my scots friends [and I genuinely mean real friends] can keep it north of the border. Give me a Yorkshire pud any day.

  1. Just because no body wrote about it doesn't mean it isn't a scottish invention.

I would keep it quiet if haggis was in my diet too:)

  2. Angus, I had you in mind when I wrote "my scots friends".

Of course it proves nothing but it was a good story though. :)

  6. I'd be inclined to give it credence. After all, a Scots food writer is making the claim. But it's now a Scots national dish. So what? This is a tiny island. Why does it matter?

  7. I think the trick is to bait the trap with a jigger of whisky, then hide behind a tree with a mallet...

  9. Guess what? Yorkshire pudding wasn't invented in Yorkshire either and as for Welsh rabbit.............

Ms Brown should have looked a bit harder, there are English recipes for haggis from manuscripts dated 1420, sloppy research, plus the ancient greeks ate something similar....in fact it's a universal dish dating from times when 'nose to tail eating' was a necessity rather than some foodie fashion fad.
There is also the chance that we're missing a bit of old Scottish humour in Burns poem as the English and Lowlanders were referred to as 'pudden faced' by the Highlanders.
