[thought for the day] wednesday evening

There is no left or right in UK politics any more. This battle is about one thing:

Authoritarianism versus Liberty.

  1. You could have got a nicer one. What you go and find a picture of a bell with a bloody big crack in it for?

Seriously though, I was reading about when the British left New York City they left a Union Flag at the top of a greased flagpole. Now the American writing about it called it a 'spiteful gesture', but I personally found it quite funny. After all, did it cause any harm? No. I could imagine the troops sniggering about it as they did it.

It caused a delay of several hours for General Washington's triumphal entry into the city because of the multiple attempts to climb the pole and replace the Union Flag with the American one.

Would it have been so difficult for the Yanks to simply take the pole down and put a new one up, or didn't any of them thunk of that? Doh. LOLOL.

  2. It's always been about authoritarianism versus liberty; both the left and the right are trying to gain the authority, each in their own way.

  3. Actually everything began going to the dogs when they replaced hunter-gathering (Just imagine, fresh oysters for tea, or venison followed by wild strawberries) with farming-agriculture.

That then led to organised societies with differences between haves and have-nots, introduced diseases caught and mutated from livestock to humans, increased populations. Then again, we do have the wheel and lots of other things.

  4. bobg has has a good angle on that, there is one group branded as extreme right who are really left wing authoritarian!

  5. Right wing state power is not very different from left wing state power. Both use the media, police, secret police and army to control things.

  6. Cherie - yes.

Ginro - that was half the fun - the defects.

    BobG - that's the truth.

Ginro - would you become our resident historian please?

Colin - the thing is how to stop it or slow it down.

  7. What's the pay like?
And will I get a Chair? The one I'm sitting in could do with replacing.
Will I get a title? Something complimentary I mean, not like the ones people usually give me.

    ;)
