General Than Shwe, 74, is the main force behind the bloodshed, forced labour, rapes and all the rest of it.
Like virtually all dictators, he's a sick man with impaired judgement, given to grandiose titles and lavish wealth, fearing his own people, escape routes in place for his spoilt family.
Let me put it another way - he is mad. Or yet another way - he is possessed and can't backtrack. Same thing.

...to produce a situation like this ...
From where does this force for monumental indifference to humanity emanate?
... which finally results in this.
What never ceases to amaze me is that no matter how repressive a regime, there are still willing volunteers joining the police and army to enforce the repression.
ReplyDeleteThose are the really sick minds, those who would act against their own people.
You're not wrong there.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm always amazed at those who will act against their own, too. But they will say they were "following orders" just as the Nazis did. In some societies joining the police or the army is the only way to a decent living. As for leaders, all power corrupts so if you were already a rotten bastard you are going to become more of one in power.
ReplyDeleteI take it you truly believe that the Common Enemy of Man exists. Some might think that the present Establishment's efforts to airbrush him out is evidence of his reality. But if he does exist, then so does... How many others here share that view?
ReplyDeleteNow I'm getting ready to run one of your posts where you used the term "airbrushing out", Sackerson so you and I are at one on the events but only need to agree on the ultimate source. Ian's post on Common Purpose is a good indicator.
ReplyDeleteWelsh, I believe that most on the way up are still pretty green and believe the guff. then, when they get up there, they're shown the view from the height, as JC was and it's awfully hard to say no to. Then it starts.
