14.  Generation confused

If the generations dovetailed neatly, then there’d be far fewer posts but they don’t and so the posts are what they are.

I was looking at my own generation and how we’re clearly different to later members of our supposed Gen.  In fact, those later members have been called Generation Jones (Wiki):

… the social cohort of the latter half of the Baby Boomer generation to the first year of Generation X. The term Generation Jones was first coined by the American cultural commentator Jonathan Pontell, who identified the cohort as those born from 1954 to 1965 in the U.S. who were children during Watergate, the oil crisis, and stagflation, rather than during the 1950s, but slightly before Gen X.

… as they reached adulthood, there was no compulsory military service and no defining political cause, as opposition to United States involvement in the Vietnam War was for the older boomers. 

Their parents' generation was sandwiched between the Greatest Generation and the Baby Boomers. Also, by 1955, a majority of U.S. households had at least one television set and so, unlike Leading-Edge Boomers born from the mid 1940s to the early 1950s, many members of Generation Jones (trailing-edge boomers) have never lived in a world without television—similar to how many members of Generation Z (1997–2012)have never lived in a world without personal computers or the internet or mobile phones.

Right, let’s get some dates going here. The Pill changed all from 1960 through the 60s, Woodstock was the drug-addled 1969, there were other festivals.  The 70s saw the rise of acid house and raves I think they were called, I never went to one, too old.  I had a lodger with me in my first house, to help pay off the mortgage, six years younger, he had parties where everyone was doing it with anyone … I point out that I got out of there if he had one coming up, I’d come home and he obviously thought I approved.  For awhile … our parties had not been that rampant, we’d paired off in some cases, most had their own bfs or gfs and it was drinking and smoking to The Stones.

This though with his year 12s and him was something else again.  And his birth year put him dead centre of Gen Jones.  Culturally, I was most certainly before … before TV, before the inside loo.  My mother used a two grey tub washing system with roller wringer mounted between the tubs.

What generation were those playing at Woodstock?  When were they born? Leslie van Houten 1949, Times they are a changin 1964, Del Shannon and Ricky Nelson type love music ended around 1962/3. Typical naive love song … Sue Thompson Paper Tiger year 1964.  The End (Doors) 1967, When the music’s over 1967.  Morrison’s birth year 1943.  These people had Korea/Vietnam.  Let me see … Vietnam ended 1972, last kid would have been born 1952, anyone after missed out.

Instead of generations, how about morals? If Morrison had those morals, 1943, what of other 50s kids in little suits with short pants? It does seem to indicate Woke v unreconstructed (not necessarily conservative).  There was no one I knew dressed like Vox … mohawk, bohemian, not in our generation. Keith Moon born 1946.

You know what, why were we not total little monsters?  My theory is that we were in a bubble in the middle of boomerhood.  Maniacs 1940 to 1949, maniacs after 1956.  When was a girl on the pill at Woodstock born?  Where were her parents? 1943 to 1953, right?  My age range, yet I’d never have been allowed near Woodstock.

I went to two mass meets like that … one was in the forest in 1972, another a music thing around 1974. In both cases, I met many non-indiscrimate, one became my gf.
