Very interesting to me why first of all it was written by Jackie deShannon and sung by her, also by Pam Tillis and as Lord Somber shows, by "our" Susie too:

The gals seem to take to the song like ducks to water, J deS invented that name to appear unisex, it's become a staple at oldies nights and so many major artists of both sexes have covered it.

You know that it would be untrue, you know that I would be a liar, if I were to say to you, Susie couldn't get us higher ... come on baby, light our fire.  Of all the female icons ... Norma Jean, Dolly Parton, Sophia Loren, Gina L etc., the only two who really do it for me are Susie and Audrey ... maybe Vera Lynn and Lily Langtry, who moved The Who to write that song about her, not Lillian Gish, though she was a honey too.  Annette Hanshaw too. Helen of Troy was also pretty good by all accounts, going back a few more years, but never Messalina nor those Sirens. And no one likes a Jezebel for long.

I'm not even going to start on real life onliners ... that's getting a bit close for comfort.
