7.  Of course there's another way of looking at it

... which will not endear me to many readers here:

Wiki had this:

In June 1979, a man using the pseudonym Robert C. Christian approached the Elberton Granite Finishing Company on behalf of "a small group of loyal Americans", and commissioned the structure. Christian explained that the stones would function as a compass, calendar, and clock, and should be capable of "withstanding catastrophic events". Joe Fendley of Elberton Granite assumed that Christian was "a nut" and attempted to discourage him by providing a quote for the commission which was several times higher than any project the company had previously taken, explaining that the guidestones would require additional tools and consultants. To Fendley's surprise, Christian accepted the quote. When arranging payment, Christian said that he represented a group which had been planning the guidestones for 20 years and which wanted to remain anonymous. Christian delivered a scale model of the guidestones and ten pages of specifications.

'Christian' eh?  Riiiigggghhhht.

There's something not right about the Georgia Guidestones thing - earliest report I can find is dated the 6th, but the GBI has released surveillance footage of the explosion dated 7th (according to the camera). The remains were also demolished on the 6th for 'safety reasons'. Here is the report from the 6th. The video is worth watching, the VP of the granite company says some interesting things that show which side he is on.

The surveillance footage.

Further on in the report, it seems to me that the GOP candidate, Kandiss Taylor, is being set up to take the fall for this.

  3. Used to pass the Guidestones on road trips to South Carolina for fireworks.
As much as I like roadside oddities, the Guidestones always seemed aesthetically off to me.
