1 less - the earth is an oblate spheroid, so the surface is further from the centre at the poles.

Shall answer soon Ian.
ReplyDelete1. I stick with less, but it's because the surface is further from the centre at the equator! - I should read my own answers!

2. This one.
ReplyDelete6. Gas crater Turkmenistan
Less at the equator, Earth, Libya, Chile, 5 yes, Turkmenistan, Giant's Causeway.
ReplyDeleteA fine job done by both.
1) I imaginé that the centrifugal force at the equator would have an effect top.
ReplyDeletecorrect, gravity provides the centripetal force that overcomes a bodies inertia - unsure of the magnitude but will calculate later!
ReplyDeleteIan J
Have just done my sums and with gravity of 9.81N/Kg, centripetal force on equator is 0.0337N/Kg, so is very small compared to 'g'. I must have done this years ago, but it was interesting? to re-visit

I've just thought - how fast would the earth have to spin to send us all flying off into space due to inertia? I'll have a go!
