Sunday [9 to 11]

This lovely day [continuo].

11.  Haiku

[As I remember it] the original report focussed mainly on food shortages (as a result of unchecked population growth) being prevalent during the 80's. They weren't - at least, in Europe & the USA - so the report was dissed & dismissed.

The report (revisited) suggests that maybe they were on to something, and that the report shouldn't be ignored [too quickly]  ...

10.  Distant Relative

a.  Isn't this jolly....

From the Ada Lovelace Institute pdf "Checkpoints For Vaccine Passports - Requirements for Govts and developers".

No wonder they "appear" to be in lockstep.

b. Elites

Why Sunak wants a digital currency.

c.  Make of this what thou wilt. :)

9.  Typical

This is a perfect example, perfect, of prejudice and reverse snobbery, from officialdom down.

To me, the worst prejudice is silent, unspoken reverse snobbery - the type where they can easily say rubbish, you're imagining it but it keeps going on and on all the same. It's the type of thing where you're passed over, even though eminently qualified.  It was seen all the time in broadcasting where a northern accent was a death sentence to career.

The AFL is meant to be unbiased, like the BBC here, it's meant to give fair coverage and makes a big noise about doing that.  Bollox. The Cats aren't the only team given the faux treatment either, there are others and I like those teams, natch, for that reason, plus they can play well.

There is, however, a team of golden boys, Richmond, with maybe the second largest membership in the land, working class bovver boys and the PTB clearly want them to succeed.  They were gifted the MCG as their home ground, ensuring a number of recent premierships, inc last year against Geelong.

There's a rule that teams finishing the season 1 or 2 get to play a home final at their own ground. The sole team in the league not allowed to do this is Geelong.  Reason?  It would give Geelong too great an advantage in the opinion of the League.  Nothing about the MCG giving Richmond a massive advantage, oh no.

All right, I just clicked on the AFL front page to see and it was not even mentioned near the top, yet the game had just finished.  My heart leapt because when they suppress all mention of the Cats and bury the news, it usually means just one thing.  I went to the club site itself and sure enough:

Having failed at the final hurdle against the same opposition in last year's Grand Final, the utterly dominant 15.5 (95) to 8.9 (57) victory had that extra edge. Where the Cats might have otherwise taken the foot off the pedal in any other game, in this one they kept it planted firmly to the floor.
Oh yes indeed!  Foot flat to the floor, grind those bstds into the turf.  And the most beautiful part was this was set up for a Richmond win, max crowd, max MSM, millions of dollars changing hands.  Sweet.  Now, in keeping with our boys not being the most beautiful lot and this site not running ugliness, I shan't run the photo but you can see it on that page, near the end.

  2. I have no interest in men playing 'kick the ball' or 'catch the odd shaped ball' but it is uplifting to hear a story of underdogs overcoming bias and unequal treatment to wipe the floor with the 'intended' winners.
