Friday radio play

Clearly, in the 50s, they knew full well we'd have illness in 2020/21 and so devised these radio play clones to keep us happy in that event - change the names, rearrange the action, keep all the cliches.

Despite that and the annoying nature of Temple at times, plus the wife's silly nom-de-plume, the stupidity of  rushing off to explore marshland late evening on the strength of a shady phonecall, despite the plethora of bodies and knowing that if they were seeking some character, he/she was most likely bashed to death - despite all that ... wwweeellllll ... you know ... it's quite addictive.

I say to myself - just the first part, up to the music, that's all, it's not as if we don't know what will happen and whom the villain is ... and then I can't switch off, except when the bed collapses again or when I need to post this.  [Bed tomorrow, Ripper.]  So here tis:

  1. They sure kept late hours back then! People that the Temples hardly know asking if they can drop round to see them anywhere between 10 p.m. and midnight. Their poor houseboy Charlie or his stand-in Ricky must have been severely lacking in sleep. The Temples must've paid well.

I'm listening to the one I mentioned yesterday with Bernie Braden (a Canadian trying hard to be British) as Mr T. It is unintentionally amusing. I downloaded it from Audible dot co dot uk and parted with a few coins to get it.

  2. I'm surprised James, a master boat builder could surely build a functional bed in his sleep!

  3. DR - it was too interesting not to run this evening.

Andy - issue is not bed, I’m on it now. It’s health.

  4. Toodles.

Oh my gracious! It is not only similar, it is the very same script as the Spencer Mystery except the names have been changed and the sexes are swapped out as the investigation of the victim is male rather than female et al (if I am allowed to use male/female terms).

How unoriginal and insulting they were.

Okay...need to get back to the radio play!!! Young Ferguson's murder must be solved!

    1. Dunno how often these programmes were serialised back in the day - maybe once a year or some sort of time-lapse like that in the hope that listeners had forgotten (or even lost?) the plot. Obviously the creators hadn't allowed for binge-listening. :)

The Temples definitely need to up their home security and sack the houseboy for slackness.

    2. You are permitted to use male-female terms, Toodles, as long as you are one of those.

  5. The theme music in the earlier series is Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov as opposed to Coronation Scot in the later ones which is a bit less dramatic but I prefer it.
