Constrictor knot

Most of a certain age might know the clove hitch and one better - the locking clove hitch with the wrap-around extra hitch.  We've probably used the constrictor just as a matter of course anyway, either directly or folded in a bow.

Seems to me this one is for when something more permanent is wanted:



I'd say it would be difficult to untie, were it used for, say, lashing stays holding up low masts and you might need to consider losing the end of the cord at the lashing by cutting when the mast needed to be lowered.  It might require a two stage knot.
