[open road] the power of youth

At the wheel sat a young man, his hair blown back by the wind. In the blaze of the evening light he looked, not a man, but a young God, a Hero God out of some Northern Saga... It was a fantastic moment. Afterwards, more than one of those present remembered that moment.

- from “10 Little Niggers”, 1939

  1. Reminds me of when youth ran hot, and so did the blood.
It was spring, the sap was rising......

  2. I don't know about power it doesn't really interest me, but wisdom comes in later years ;-) I think that is much more important.

  3. "a young God, a Hero God out of some Northern Saga."
OK, I can go with that, old Northern tree-hugger that I am.

I should point out what was about to be done by, and later unto, Europe's foremost fans of Northern Saga in 1939, and 'unto' was a good thing too.

But you've got to love that book title, if only to epater la bourgeoisie, considering who and what too much of our bourgeoisie obsess about as the rest of the country goes South...
