I've done the rounds and looked at what people have said so far. There has been some quite positive feedback and some not so positive:
Morningstar says he won't support these Awards, then makes the points:
And that, dear Morningstar, is precisely why these Awards are needed - awards by bloggers who are real bloggers for fellow bloggers. We know who we are, whether we are MSM or not. This mechanism keeps it all shipshape and Bristol fashion.
As for inner circle - well there are many inner circles. There's Blogpower, the Dale world, the Daily Kos world and so on. These Awards are beyond any circle and at the same time recognize each circle in its own category.
These awards are exactly for bloggers such as you, Morningstar. Easy to be negative. Far harder to support something. I hope you'll support the idea.
Already we have some names being put forward and as someone must start the ball rolling, these will appear as a list tomorrow and then those people asked if they'll be Panellists.
Finally for now, Welshcakes advised yesterday ' the Awards will certainly go ahead. Just give people enough time to come to grips with them.
So I'm still hopeful.

Yes I put the badge on my blog, I thought it was good that someone had recognised me, but I always felt as though it required being a part of the inner circle to get on the list. By the second one, I didn’t want to be on the list, there was too much stat porn being bandied around and I don’t think blog awards should be about visitor numbers, whichever measure you subscribe to.

I did say it was a great idea, before I said anything else and I really do think it is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI also support the awards in my own way, that's why I posted about them, but, I just have my own difficulties at the moment, which is why I used the word, subscribe, rather than support.

Not too sure about blog type awards really. There are so many now, and too much of it does rest on numbers. I also side with EU Referendum in that bloggers on this side of the pond have a long way to go to get up to the speed and standard of our US counterparts where blogging is concerned. There's an American site I link to, Ironic Surrealism, and how she holds down a full time job yet blogs as tenaciously as she does I do not know. I wish I had her energy. Politics and things that matter are at the forefront of many of their blogs and they spare their political masters nothing in their criticisms of them.
ReplyDeleteBut take here. From the outset those Downing Street online polls have been nothing but a PR thing. How many have actually been listened to? And yet people still proudly announce that they've opened up yet another one and urge everyone to sign it...what the hell for? It's just going to be ignored like all the others.
Of course if anyone wants to award me something then I might change my mind...LOL! No, that's just a joke. A lot of it is who you know, not what you know, as is so much in life.
And I'm getting rather tired of my dirty old man avatar and had forgotten I still had it until I left my comment. Sort of detracts from the serious nature of the discussion, lol.
