Would you be sad or glad?

Would you be sad or glad?

Upon reading the Exclusive: Thatchers to emigrate

Or, perhaps mad? :-)

  1. Mark Thatcher has already made a name for himself in South Africa - I can only hope that the whole lot of them piss off to New Zealand.

  2. Pisces Iscariot: I note from the Torygraph that Carol Thatcher has fled to Switzerland to hide out from alleged death threats. I have updated my blog post...

Mark Thatcher should have been jailed for that little stunt in South Africa with the attempted coup.

  3. Who could we swap them for? Pinochet's dead, Mugabe wouldn't come, and Dubya, even with Pop's help wouldn't know how to find us.

  4. Mopsa: LOL. I think we would give them away for free if anybody will have them...

  5. Personally I don't think I could be bothered anymore to cheer or jeer at their presence in or absence from the UK.

  6. I think we all need to smarten up our dancing on the grave skills what with the demise of a "master"-bating blogger and all.

I wonder if he'll live up (or die down) to his claim that his blog was all he had to live for?

  7. How apposite, that social Malthusians should become surplus population.

  9. Sad.

Mrs. T was the last competent Prime Minister with integrity and joint killer of the USSR and destroyer of the over-mighty trade unions.

She also rescued the idea of wealth creation as a way to become and stay prosperous and free.

And look who killed it off. John.Tony. Gordon.

    Silly little boys.

  10. No, she didn't quite kill the mighty USSR all on her lonesome. This is a right-wing fallacy. The mighty USSR gave her more than a helping hand.

Read 'The History of the Soviet Union From Beginning To End' by Peter Kenez.

As for killing the mighty unions, she gave us the mighty businesses instead - and they've just done a wonderful job, haven't they? Please explain to me how a three day week because of union action is bad, while a shortened working week because of business incompetence is good. I genuinely don't understand

  11. Martin, she had help and more from Reagan's USA and NATO countries (back when it was a self-defence alliance) and the way the capitalist West could out-produce, out-tax and therefore out-rearm the ageing Soviet Union.

And the healthy balance of payments and low national debt left even by her incompetent successor just got eaten up by Nu Labour's spending and taxing jamboree - funded by a 'light touch' regulatory 'regime' by our Greatest Chancellor and not flash Mister Brown.

He allowed and indeed encouraged an inflationary boom based on rising house prices whose debt he never bothered to make sure was secured by the big banks. Greedy they were - always are, since greed is what makes business work, but government is supposed to GOVERN; to insist that contracts can be fulfilled and the banks were passing paper around without even the old securities demanded of the Thatcher-age regulatory establishment.

Business incompetence is bad - and should be punished by the market - and would have been if micromanager martinet Mister Brown hadn't returned instantly to his collectivist roots.

It wouldn't have take a genius to buy up the worst debt, ring-fence it, demand that existing good debt be matched with deposits - and allowed new, non-debt versions of the old banks to float and start anew - or fail in the face of newer, better lenders.

But not one of our collectivist 'leaders' - either side of the Pond, either side of the House, had enough gumption for that.

So back to old-fashioned nationalisation which didn't work back in the day, but anything to save Nu Labour: dodgy mortgage salesmen to the British people.

'Tough choices!' They ran way from every one.
