[thought for the day] thursday evening

No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

[John Donne]

Well, if we can just stop talking of death and other fun concepts like that, the general principle is right though.

In these current weeks, for me personally, this principle has been brought home quite strongly - we can't go it alone, no matter how much we like to think we make the play. We depend on others, as those others might then depend on us.

  1. Sometimes I wish I were an island. Life would be simpler and I could read all my books.

  2. I did have a time in between jobs, when I had the opportunity to read. Then, I wanted to meet people instead. Reading in isolation is a bit like taking driving lessons without having a car. Aren't we humans funny?

  3. For me, being the micro-manager, it is very difficult to let myself depend on others, even outside my area of comfort. But sometimes there is no choice and one usually finds that other people do just fine and often better than one could manage oneself. Go with the flow James.

  6. Ah, Zen, Ordo - what do I know of zen?

Sackers - your networking must be something awewsome.

JMB - that's the point - as micro-managers, we discover it is not always possible in isolation.

  7. I do quite fine on my own and depend on no one. Has worked for the last 5 years, stressing yes.

  8. I agree with your thoughts in this post James, for the first time, entirely.
