Effing madness or what?

Effing madness or what?

I think it is a beautiful old mansion. The government pays £3.18M for the property 3 days after it was sold for £1.35M! Then English Heritage spends £4M restoring it, only to offer it for sale between £4.5M and £5M. The new owner, if anybody is mad enough to buy it, will need to spend another £6M on further repairs. Then, it is claimed that the public must have access! If I had that kind of money, I would not want a place open to the general public. I think it is wrong for English Heritage to expect it both ways, sell the property and still keep it open to the public.

  1. It is beautiful. But you are right, why pay for a house when you will have the public coming through. Guess it is a viable business project at best.

  2. I suspect they are expecting someone like the National Trust or Historic Houses Association to take it off their hands and finish the work they started!

  3. It might make a good open prison or retirement home for old lags?

  4. People's expectations can be anything. Nothing is unreasonable. However, after all the hassle with rights of way and other government interference it will likely be another heritage type organisation that buys it. More than likely with our money.

  5. If they can buy, fence in, rope off and then sell us tickets to look at Stonehenge ( not to mention- threaten the police if you even touch the stones) anything is possible in this country.
