The gentle rain falleth from heaven,
The light mist is shrouding the scene,
The chain saws are felling the birch trees,
Crashing cars softly careen.
Inaudible workmen are bellowing,
My neighbour is playing power drill,
Toddlers are screeching at mothers,
Cacophany and lightning are shrill.
Oh what I'd give for some silence,
For the transports on wet roads to cease,
For one moment to savour this weather,
Alas - noise is the city's disease.
Nice to hear from you again James, it's pouring down with rain here too. Meanwhile, I imagine Welshcakes is glowing nicely...
ReplyDeleteNice poem. Cooler here - ie 34 C! We had a few little drops of rain last night and Simi and I went to stand in it - to the amusement of our neighbours who decided we were quite mad [again!]
ReplyDeleteIs it raining everywhere? When are we going to have summer?
ReplyDeleteYou are back with a bang James.
Ah, but you miss the noise when it's gone.
ReplyDeleteBut yes, rain can be pleasant somtimes. Refreshing. Especially when its ben close.
What a great poem!
ReplyDeleteCBI is right, you'd miss the noise when it was gone...
City noise has a charm of its own.
